I was wondering if any one might know any history about this token

I ask around, but no one has ever seen a Mercury token.

On the front it has: Mercury VII . M. Scott Carpenter.

On the back: Mission Test, Attitude Controll Equiptment, Rocket;Atlas D

Dated: May 24 1962 with fluted edges.

Any help would be appreciated.

? ? ? ? Cool find!!!? ?I'm guessing, but it must have to do with the Mercury capsule that? Alan Shephard went up in that made the U.S.A.'s first suborbital flight.? Unless I've got it backwards, Scott Carpenter didn't go up till after John Glenn.? ? ??Never new they made these.? ? ?WTG!!!!? ? ? ? ? ? ?HH

Nice token! Certainly to do with the early space launches. HH, Mike
