One & a half

Creeks are almost completely dry in North eastern Okla. but the weather was fantabulous today, so we decided to walk down the empty creek beds and see if we could find anything. Found a beautiful knife/blade and another broken one :hello2: --Both are very thin with some great flaking. Also found a couple of other broke pieces and lots of flint.

Re: One & a half

Nice! so glad y'all got out, Those are nice, even if the one is broken! Another pretty Kay C. chert, :icon_thumleft: those finds would have made my day, isn't it nice to not have over 100 degrees?

Glad you had a good hunt!!

Thanks Huntress and Lisa :hello: ......Yes, it was so nice to get out and this weather is awesome---Going from 100 degrees one day to 75 degrees the next day is wild. The weather was just too good to stay inside, and we didn't even see any snakes! Just lots of lizards :D .
I can't believe how dry the creeks are--almost no water left in any of them. But the one thing good about that is you can check all those deep holes for flint. The broken knife was right in the middle of the creek where there is usually water. Here's the insitu's of the good finds:

Yeah, I kinda did "squeal" a little, huh?! :tongue3: That was a rush.
Thanks T..... We got lots more ground to cover in that new creek! ;D :hello2: But the one thing good about that is you can check all those deep holes for flint. The broken knife was right in the middle of the creek where there is usually water. Here's the insitu's of the good finds:

[/quote]Thanks 11KBP. I knew if we could get to the creeks while the water was down, we'd find something good. That flint really catches in those deep holes.

Re: One & a half

Those are some really nice pieces, you all really had a great day. Those knife/blades are fantastic I agree the one with the swirl is a beauty. There is nothing quite like a nice stone blade. Congratulation's !!! :headbang: :notworthy: :headbang:

Thanks for the comments GTP and flintdigger! :hello:

Re: One & a half

Cool stuff. I like to see how pieces like these are flaked. What is the material the knife with the color swirl is made from?

I love the blade and the insitus. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Americus---Its hard to find whole artifacts around here. Mostly everything we find has tumbled in the creek until it breaks, so its a thrill to find anything whole.

Re: One & a half

sandcreek that sure is some pretty material that knife is made from . The stone has a slick look to it, like the rock the blade was knapped from might have been heat treated before they knapped it. That is really a nice one. :headbang: :hello2:

Thanks flintdigger. A lot of the Kay county chert pieces we find are heat treated giving them a pretty reddish or pink tint.
