To this date my finds have been mostly made up of archaic lithics.None of these were field finds.I have been very happy with what i have found.I have recently met a guy who has gotten me interested in an excursion to find anything paleo. We are planning a camping trip to Munsungan lake in northern maine. There are chert outcrops here that are close to the lake. There have been several paleo sites discovered here. One is a workshop and the other is a habitation site.Munsungan chert was a favorite of paleo indians. So im hoping its all about location...location.There were numerous bifaciall flake preforms found. Also broken fluted points broken while they were being made.Lots of fluting flakes.Sounds like a good place to start.Besides beautiful country with alot of bear and moose.

Location location location!
Good luck

Thanks gatorboy i think by going to a known area that has a history of paleo inhabitants ill hopefully better my chances.Ive got a few hundred artifacts ive found none of which i believe are paleo. So my old system is not as of yet working.New game plan!

Good luck. That's the right area, up around Vail, etc. if you don't luck out first try, make a habit out of it if you're able. Sooner or later....

Thanks charl.I also plan on hitting that dam site that bourqe mentions in his book. The thought of picking paleo artifacts out of the sand sounds appealing to me.

Im just trying to find a whole Dalton then after that Ill shoot for the Paleo.

Rock my bigfoot is a grooved axe. Pretty much gave up on one at this point. So ill set my sights on something else.Ive found every other type of wood working tool.Axes be damned!!!!

Thats three more than i got.I figure by putting myself in an area where they were mining the material making artifacts and living in the area.Hell throw in a stream dividing two lakes sounds like a good place to start.

Yes I have way more flaked axes then I do hard stone grooved axes or even celts one day I will find a whole one ... That's funny you say between two lakes I live between two myself I bet you are going to find something really special !!!!

When you are looking for something super hard you have to put in all types of plans of action, but it boils down to this ,being in the right place at the right time:hello2:HH
