On a roadtrip this week and had an interesting score today

So, I'm back in Louisianna this week (scored big time last trip!) and hit just a few banks today after work. Got a few clad halves, but did score $120 in Ike dollars all rolled up. Got some nice ones in there, but did score my first ever NIFC dollar coin. Got a nice brand new BU 1973 Ike. Pretty cool as they were only issued in Mint Sets. The rest were a nice mix of Ikes. Will add them to my pile.

Will update on any more interesting finds this week and post pics when I get home next weekend.

HSH to all.

Very cool, nice work :icon_thumleft: I like the Ike's and don't seem to run into them as much as others on here.

A question for you: What area of the country are you from? I'm going to be traveling to the south a lot this fall (Alabama, Georgia etc) to work at different places and will try to do some road trips when I get the chance. I'm wondering how a 'yankee' is received by the tellers down there. I've been doing some road trips while in different places for work but have yet to try it while so far south. It will be obvious (from the different accent) that I am from much further north :laughing9: :laughing9:

Most places I've tried it from so far, they would most likely not know I'm not from somewhere locally. In general I've not had any issues being from the north while down south working (except some major attitude while in a couple different place in TX) but wonder what you're experience is if you're not from there.

I've been finding a fair amount of Ike's lately myself and I found one bank last week with a teller who had around $200 or so in rolls but I only bought one $20 roll at the time because I was short on cash at the time. The one's I bought were all clad Ike's of course but I've been wondering if I should go back later this week and buy all the rest. I'm sure they are just more clad Ike's but I suppose it's worth it to buy them and find out for sure. I wonder which would be more likely (or unlikely) - finding a silver Ike or finding a Peace or Morgan dollar? :dontknow:

You never know until you try...maybe you'll get extremely lucky and score a silver Ike, Peace, and Morgan! Go for it!

And you can always spend the boring Ikes that or left over, or sell some rolls or bigger lots on eBay for a modest profit...

I probably will go back and buy those Ike (I'm assuming) rolls. I'll never know for sure unless I search 'em. Sure would be a nice score to find any silver in one of those rolls - or maybe a solid roll or two of peace or Morgan dollars. That would be a true jackpot but I know the odds of that happening are very low but I can't help but dream of a score like that.

Btw, thanks for the reminder about those '73's. I sometimes forget about those being NIFC. I knew that they were I just forget about it sometimes but I don't think I've ever found any CRHing. I have several '73 mint sets and I know that they are the 2nd most valueable mint set of the '70's because of the Ike dollar. I'll have to remember to watch for those when I'm CRHing.

Just answering where I'm from. I am from all over as I have been in military for 27 yrs. But, i grew up in upstate NY. I have foundbanks in the South to be very friendly. You won't have any problems is my bet.

HH!

I'm curious about what makes your 1973 BU an NIFC. I've got three that my grandmother gave me in 1973 and they had never seen a set. Just curious.
