Olive jar ?, region?

My wife found this at an upscale estate sale for a well traveled couple. I have never seen one like it, though it looks like an olive jar. I have never seen one wrapped in metal like this, rust on the metal, and no damage to glass the top is very irregular, but was made that way. No makers marks anywhere. Any ideas as to region of origin, and/or age is much appreciated.

Size is about 6" diameter, 3" tall

Appears welded so not sure its an old piece,possibly a reproduction item..just my 2$ cents worth.
