I have been lurking a while with nothing really to add. Today went to a local pool while my son was at practice and dug a 1910(6?) penny. Unfortunately the soil was not kind. The front is blackened and patina "bulges" are coming out the back. Still, in two years, I have found that and a Barber. I was getting a little discouraged so it was good timing to find something.

HH and Thanks for looking.

Good find! It's easy to get discouraged when the finds aren't coming. It seems like it takes a while to get into the swing of things when detecting...but then once it kicks in, it gets easier faster. It takes time to get the "knack". I got discouraged too. It took forever for me to find silver.

The more swinging time you have on your detector, the more familiar you will get with it. The finds will come more often and you will have confidence in yourself. Congrats on the old penny and keep swinging!! 8)

If irs a wheatie the oldest would before 1909. Indians were before that. Is it a wheatie or can you even tell?

Crazy,
The back is so deteriorated that it is impossible to tell. I would need to find a way to get some of the corrosion off the back. I did put it an ultra sonnic cleaner to get the dirt off without putting any scratches on the face of the coin.

good finds come when you least expect them sometimes. one thing i have learned is that persistance pays. if you think there is a reason for good stuff to be there, its there! it may take a while to find it but if you keep looking more times than not you will be rewarded. congrats on your oldest!
