Well I hunted my favorite spot last night covering another small section. My first good target was the 1920 s merc. Then I got my oldest IHP 1865 its pretty worn but the date is readable . I started to make my way back to the truck when I got another deep 32-34 vdi on the X-70. I dug down about 5 inches and found my new oldest IHP 1864. All in all another good night cant wait to see what this park has left. Thanks for looking and HH.

congs on your finds. Sure like finding the old IH's. Plus the silver is nice....Matt

very carefully clean the 1864 IH penny an look to see if you have a L in the headdress by the neck..if so it's worth a alot more then a regular 1864...

I was wondering if I should try to clean it to see if it has the L on the headdress. I think its the copper-nickel variety so If so no L at all. Thanks creeper any advice on cleaning ?

pic isn't good enough for me to say how to clean... if you don't see any pitting or flaking then use the Hot peroxide method..if it does have pitting or corrosion to where it may take detail..then just use wet q-tips an tooth picks

Doesn't appear to be the copper-nickel (fatty) variety because it would be thicker than it appears. Usually those have more of a reddish color because of the nickel as well. Good job on finding your oldest!

Better pics but they dont do them justice no L on the 64.
don't know how you can tell with all the crude remaining on it....
I tried taking better pics but for some reason it really seems to highlight the coins flaws not showing what im seeing in my hands. The coin actually looks alot better then the pics. I will take the coin to the coin shop today and see if he can spot an L. Thanks for the cleaning advice creeper.
