Metal Detecting
This home goes back to the turn of the 17 C (early 1700s). Waited many years to hunt it. Owner finally gave permission but said couple others have done it while I was waiting :BangHead:. One was supposedly a privy digger.

Anyway I was getting signals that no decent detectorist would have left but not much if any good stuff so far (this, a hem weight, and a '35 Merc)

This thing was deeper, and has a beautiful heavy patina. I’m pretty sure it’s horse tack, but any ideas? For the bit? It’s cast and I include a close-up of the business end. Any ideas on age? Thanks!

Hi - No it's not threaded on the inside. The hole is 3/8" diameter.

Your find is a broken-off arm of a brass spur, missing the strap-attachment knob. (Yes, some spurs had a knob instead of slots.)

TheCannonballGuy - great to see you still posting here with all of your sage knowledge!! Would you be able to put an approximate time-frame on it based on design and patina? I assume it is civilian though the house undoubtedly had some Rev War visitors to try and solicit donations for the campaign. Thanks again!
