Wow!!! Thats a loaded reject bin!

The most ive found was about 7-8 coins.

I have no clue on that "roman" coin, but it sure looks old! Very cool either way! :occasion14:

I am no expert at all, but it looks like it was cast and not struck..

Assuming it's real, it is at least one of the oldest coins found CRHing.

Personally, I've found two ancient roman coins while searching bags of coins and I know there was at least one other person (and I believe others) who found one as well. Can't remember the dates of those off hand.

Whether it is the oldest or not shouldn't really be a big deal though as it is still a very cool find. :)

Although not an exact match, this is the closest I could find doing a quick search. Appears to be likely Maximinus II, circa 308 AD

The text I believe is "GAL VAL MAXIMINVS NOB C" and "GENIO CA-ESARIS"

Hopefully somebody with better ancient roman identifying skills can take it from there.

ding ding ding ding! Thank you so much!
From your description, I was able to find another one that closely matches mine:

Maximinus II

#104-254, minted between 308-310AD.
Wow! how cool is that?

Now I wonder how I find out if it's the real deal or not...

Just an update to this coin.

Went to the Baltimore Coin Expo over the weekend.

Visited 3 ancient coin dealers and 2 said its the real deal- the other one wouldn't commit to it but said its most likely real.
Beside Sag said so too ;)

1 dealer noted it's from an ancient mint located in modern Turkey. As posted previously, roughly 312A.D. Unit currency is 1 follis. Looked up follis and noticed most contained a small minimal of silver-usually as a surface cladding.

Guessed this one goes in a special holder.

Wow congrats- did you get any indication of value?

Not really. Value wasn't in my list of questions to ask. I did noticed a pile of common uncleaned dime/penny size Roman coins priced at $10-$15 ea. Being common quarter sized follis, might fetches $25?
