Was up for my sister in law's wedding and was staying at the in laws house. He has about 10 acres with two houses on it. I was fooling around in the back yard the first day when my Father in law says that there was a house on the back of the property in the 1800's, he had just filled in the cellar hole a few months back. I spent several hours working the back of the property, but it was just FILLED with modern junk. The descrimination was only partially helping because there was so much larger debris. I found an old Silver spoon, which I need to clean up to see if it has a story.

Anyway, every day I was leaving the house, I would look across the driveway at this field that he is letting the farm next door use for corn.

Finally, the last day there, I got up early and decided to just hit the field. My bride told me that there used to be green houses at the close edge which were bulldozed when she was a kid. I did get lots of targets, but they lessened as I got further from the house. On my first return trip, I got a penny / dime signal and dug up this beauty. A 1917 mercury dime. Doing most of my hunting in Florida doesn't lend itself to finding old coins. It was the best find of the trip!

P.S. My bride tells her Dad about my find when we were leaving for the airport. He says "Oh, you should have detected the front yard, they used to sell flowers there back in the early 1900's, you would probably find lots of old change." Well, it'll have to be next trip.
