Old Yard Find - Filled With Ink?

Found this in an old yard yesterday...the middle part comes out and it's full of a semi-solid purple substance that looks like ink...not sure what it could be. The container is 1 3/4" tall.

Probably not that old if you found in in the dirt. (?)
