Are you sure its for tackle? At that time it wasnt uncommon to re-purpose kerosene boxes , or soap boxes etc as alot of stuff was sold packed in wooden crates and boxes. Im surprised there isnt some branding on it somewhere. Maybe a gentle clean up with some linseed oil may freshen the leather and add a little lustre without losing its patina. As for value I think $40 may have been retail...I cant see much percentage there if you are looking to flip it. (just my VERY humble opinion). Its a cute piece.
