old wheatite /sardine cans

I had afew mins at lunch and searched my mom's back yard I found 1.47 in clad and a very old wheatie. looks to be @ 1920 Does anybody have advice about cleaning extermely dirty wheaties ? I also foud 4 sardine cans about a foot down I guess the builders had a cat . Thanks for the replies everyone.

Nothing in those cans? Just put the penny in olive oil for 24 hours.

I second the olive oil bath. Let it soak for a day or two in the olive oil, and then brush it VERY gently with an old toothbrush and then wipe it clean with a gentle cloth. The olive oil will loosen up all the crud and the brush will break it free. Just remember to be very patient and gentle with it, and it'll come out much better looking then when it went in! HH!

Tank, I think you mean the 1922. 1920 is a common date.
