Old Turquoise & Silver Bracelet

I received this nice old bracelet (along with some artifacts) from a family friend, and I was hoping someone here may be able to tell me a little about it. Here is what I do know: It is silver, not sure if its nickel or sterling as there are no marks. The silver is heavily tarnished and looks like at one time someone used some green silver polish and didnt get it out of the tight areas. The bracelet is handmade and not cast, the turquoise is real. Not sure of its origin just that it had belonged to my friends grandmother and where she got it no one knows. If anyone has any ideas on an approx. age or where it may have been made please feel free to post your thoughts. Thanks

Re: Old Turquoise & Silver Bracelet

If you access to an MD, the tone will tell you if its nickel alloy, (low tone)
which a lot of unmarked stuff like this is, if marked it is often misleadingly named
'Alpaca', alpaca silver or nickel silver, none of which contain silver!
I think it is silver plated copper, (white polish turns green when used on copper alloys), do I see a bit of copper peeking out on right in photo #3 :icon_scratch:

I agree, it's silver plated copper.

From a woman's point of view, it is just gorgeous, even if it is plated copper. I'd leave the patina, and take a soft toothbrush and running water to get rid of the remnants of the silver polish - be careful not to polish as you go!
Nice bracelet! Great friend you have!

Re: Old Turquoise & Silver Bracelet

Copper is coming back, and big! Last year, my wife purchased a stamped copper bracelet from a Ute family in Durango Co. Silver became so expensive they switched to copper, and it is great! Yours looks like a pretty nice bracelet. I know how they make that with silver, but don't know how they would do it with something else and siver plate it. Must be copper works in the same manner as silver as far as soldering, etc.

Very nice bracelet! Was this a detecting find at some point, or just a piece that was handed down? I'd love to unearth a beauty like this!!

Even though it looks as if base metal is showing, pics can be deceiving, and I wouldnt be surprised if it was silver. I found an unusual old silver ring in my Grandmothers stuff with similar twisted rope design and its also unmarked.. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,212592.0.html

A pawn shop can test.
