went on a trip up north and found an old school house from 1893 so we tried our luck with the metal detectors and after about an hour of only finding junk we were about to leave and then i found a 1920 penny so decided to try more and then i found a gold ring!!!! returned the next day, not much luck but my brother found half an old antique toy gun, pretty cool,,,this chipmunk wanted feeding so i fed him,
what i need to know is any info you may have on the gun, i think it may be from the 20's also the ring came out of the ground shiny and clean like gold should be but its not stamped, i tried magnet, its not magnetic, i see no evidence on plating wearing off showing the base metal. i think it is gold. any other way to tell besides going to a jeweler? also what era would you think the ring is from thanks DSCF8358.JPGDSCF8352.JPGDSCF8353.JPGDSCF8355.JPG100_3764.JPG100_3766.JPG100_3759.JPG100_3760.JPG

BEAUTIFUL RING !!!

That's enoug, when they have been in the ground and come out like that it's a good bet that it is 10k or better. I found a gold ring with a similar crown setting. It was marked 18k with a tiger eye gemstone, turned out to be 14k when I tested it. Most any gold buyer or pawn shop will test for free.

I'll see if I can find a photo of the ring that I found on my PC, it will show how old gold comes out of the ground. I think I that it was originally posted on T-Net. I thought the ring that I found was lost in the 1940's. I think the style of the ring that you found dates back to the 1920's.

I just pulled up the old tread. The only thing is that I first guess the date on my ring as being from the 50's-, 60’s era, that was a conservative estimate IMO:

This is another dirt clod ring to show how gold that has been on the ground for a substantial amount of time looks when it is exposed

Nice finds! The ring looks to be gold, because of it's age and the stones, after being in the ground also look very good, so my guess is a very nice ring. You can get a metals testing kit online very inexpensively and they are easy to use. I use mine all the time HH!.
