While out detecting today i swung across this thimble. Is there a good way to figure out the ageand any other type of info? I believe it is made of brass about 3 quarters of an inch tall and has no top. The maker is i believe REGARD. But i cant find much info.

Nice thimble find! :occasion14:

Mine are usually crushed or severely damaged too!

Some thimbles have more info on the inside lower part of the thimble. Looks like yours is clearly on the outside though.

Yeah i looked on the inside to see if there was any more info. But there was none. So im lost on trying to get any info.

I pulled this site dedicated to Thimble Identification....

This site aims to allow a single thimble to be identified with regard to its country of origin, approximate date of manufacture and maker. Of course this will not be possible for all thimbles, especially those without markings, but it is hoped that many thimbles will able to be identified. It is recognized that this is not an easy aim and there will undoubtedly be errors made in the process which is based, firstly, upon the material from which the thimble is made.

It’s called a tailors thimble. Nice find.
