I remember using this swimming pond when I was in high school, after many long bike rides it was always great to cool off and there was always somebody there you knew there. That was over 20 years ago, imagine my surprise when the whole beach was fenced off, I remember just parking my bike and walking a couple feet and going swimming. The park department here really doesn't want you metal detecting in their swimming park areas, so I had to wait for the summer season to end and the parks department was not around!.I happened to notice last time I was around that the fence surrounding the beach area had a hole in it , I made use of that today!. I had the beach all to myself except for many many geese and lots of geese droppings!.I tried detecting in the water first and I found a few coins in the shallow end, but all the good stuff would be in the deep end and the water was very very cold. So I just concentrated on the beach, by the amount of coins I was finding and the frequency of finding them, I have to believe that nobody had been detecting around here for a while. I found over $16 worth of coins!, I have never found that much hunting just one area. Another first was finding the Mercury head dime, I have never found any coin that old before. Back in the '70s is when I would go swimming, I found quite a lot of coins dating from that period, pretty neat to think that maybe some of those coins I could have lost way back when!. I did find a nickel dating from 1946 in the Mercury head dime from 1944, the only two older dating coins so maybe somebody with a metal detector was here quite a few years ago.The silver ring and the pin made this a great day, if the weather goes really bad and this was my last day hunting I will be happy for a great ending day!
