When i was a kid my dad did some work on a friends tractor and kept tripping on the corner of what you see now. It was completely burried exsept for the corner. My dad had me dig it out and it was given to us. What do you make of it?

My memory is unsure after 36 years, but that looks like the boxes that carried the payroll onto our ship in 1972. I was a master-at-arms guarding the money until the bursors had payed it out. It took several boxes of currency to pay the enlisted crew of the USS Coral Sea,CVA-43.

whats up with the key on top of the box?
I don't see any key hole
Looks like you could simply open it up
whats up with the second pic with the bars and plate ?
You can bet if I found this box I would be all over it for its contents.
By the way, the yellow tag sure seems very bright for something that's been in the ground for some time.
Its time to tell us a courtesy to your fellow treasure netters what you found inside, or at least a hint

That is the key for the box. The brass square slides open for the key. What was inside? A old paper coffie creamer can wraped in news paper. When my dad opened the can and let me glance in it i said, old fuses? Nope it was filled with rolled silver money. Nickles, dimes quarters halfs and dollers. Almost $400 in face value.

Great find. I believe you. It happens. I once bought a used car at a car lot that had a trunk full of old rolled up silver quarters. I kept hearing them falling out on the road from a rubber plug underneath that we removed. i dont know how many i lost. They were all silver quaters. Some still rolled up and many broken open fell down into the wheelwells. I could hear them falling onto the road all day before i plugged it up. lol
I was just a kid.
