Today I tried a old stone cellar hole I know of - found nothing more than some old nails and a ax head- but being new at metal detecting I figure any find is a good find till I figure things out.

What kind of axe head? ...you would be surprised at the value / collectablety of some of those.

You are definitely not done there yet. Show us a pic of the axe head......

I found another ax head but left behind by accident and will go back to get it soon,

That looks like it could be pretty old. Is that part of the wooden handle? Does it have a nail driven down into it by chance?

oops sign was from my basement- did not mean to attach- However the sign is rather old,,

Yes it part of the handle , i need to clean it up some and see if its nailed in or not. The ax head I accidentally left behind is in better shape.

I mention the nail because if its an old square nail or something, that could be a good indication of age, although round nails (like the ones we use today) have been made since the mid 1800s.

A good day in the electrolysis tank and that puppy would be brought back to life.
