I got a tip off from Dad last night that a nearby field was drilled & rolled. So I took a 1/2 day & spent 5.5 hours on my own. It's 1 of a few fields that will one day be houses, so the more we save, the better.

This field has been fairly sparse over the years but today I had a good result:

Some good buttons
Lead Token
Lead Cloth Seal
Fragment of a Lead Medieval Seal Matrix
5 Roman Bronze Coins
1 Broken Roman Silver - Elagabalus (AD218-222)
2 Hammered :icon_thumright:
1942 Sixpence
Roman Fibula
Roman Pin
Roman Bronze Phallic Mount - a first for me
2 Medieval Leather Mounts
Medieval Coin Weight

I'll leave my bad day for later ::)

Will never cease to amaze how you can go over a piece of land and find a load of stuff and then come back the next year and do it again. Kind of figure you may pass on a few of those sketchy tones at times in one year but then the next...you find the cool item.

Those hammereds at least waited for you and not the nighthawks.

:icon_thumleft: Shame the silver's broken :-\ What are the hammered's?

Its a slow process of iron/trash clearance, conditions (stubble, or rough ploughed, wet or dry etc..) & detector used. We have cleared a fair bit & the conditions today were perfect, flat & slightly wet.

To be honest, it surprised me. The second dig was the sixpence & it by the entrance we have done a number of times :-[

We now made our 20 Roman silver target for the year, 3 more & it will be our best year :-\

Can't tell on the larger penny other than its a York mint, might be Ed IV. The other is a penny of Charles I. :icon_thumright:

Well, good luck on the next pass. Seems to me the cream started coming to the top.

That would be true as well, we have left it some years, so the plough has done its magic.

Good finds, silver had been broken the discovery of the year.

I don't think so, it was only ploughed a few weeks ago & its not that fresher break.
