Hello to all,

i'm new at this forum. I hope i will saty long here.
I didn't quite dig from dirth my findings. There is a family story that my grand grandfather fought in Boxer uprising in China 1899-1901. He was a sailor in austro-hungarian navy.
I found some pictures of him in China. My grandma also told me that he brought some stuff from India too. You can see it on photos. The thing with my grandma is that she told me that when she was old and she begun to lose her contact with reality so she said some things that aren't true. She made up some things.
Once she told me when i wass 7 year old that some badge is my grandfather war medal from WW I. Offcourse it wasn't true. So i really don't know about these stuff.

The head looks old but it doesn't look indian, more arab. What about other stuff ? Could these stuff be made and sold 100 years ago in India ?

I appreciate every answer and explanation.

Thanks

Love you sculptures! The first one looks Moorish in origin; not sure what makes me think of that. A quick search of Moorish male figures gave me nothing that resembled it. It does look like a sculpture I saw once on Antiques Roadshow, you might check out their site. I also am quite taken with your processional elephant. It looks like it's adorned with silver and ivory. If so, do yourself a favor and don't clean it, or for that matter any of them. It could greatly affect their value. I'll be watching this thread and see if someone else with more knowlege than I can give you more information. Welcome to T-net!!

I lived in India for six months... One thing they sold a lot of was tourist stuff like this.... I think the last two figures are just tourist trap stuff. The head, is unique and I've never seen before so It could be older and not so much for tourists.
Keep @ it and HH !!

My Idea would be to take them to 2-3 different antique dealers and get each ones opinion
and see how they stack up to each other, AND post these on the whats it forum here, We
have some very knowledgeable people that will help you over there......................HH

yeah i saw some exact elephants like in picture but without ornaments. The question is is it 100 years old elephant?

On the bottom of the head there are angraved numbers 8110 and some letters BB but nor professionaly, 110 is in one line and 8 is little bit up.
BB looks totally not connected with numbers. Letter Y is also on the top.
The numbers written by pencil could be written by my grandpa 20 years ago i don't know.

I don't know could all these marks could be made by my grandpa or chidren playing. They look like they have no sense at all..

This is most likely what the marks mean, or least something similar. BB is probably the makers mark. The 8110 is probably the model number. The 'R' and the 62285 are probably the glazers identification marks. Nice piece, but I didn't realize it was ceramic.

i was afraid of that. Could it be 100 years old ? Did they mark it like that 100 years ago?

I have no intention of selling it and i really don't care if it's worth 20 or 200 dollars i just want to know if these could be old 100 years and that my ancestor brought them from that war voyage ?

The head looks like a tobacco humidor. I would guess it was made around 1890-1910..........but hard to say for sure without having it in hand.

I would get that head checked out to me it looks like the Ethiopian Jesus

First thought that sprang to my mind was that it's the face of Jesus. Ther is a theory that Jesus survived the crucificacion, escaped to India and lived there for many more years. Some claim he's buried there. Who knows? Interesting pieces. I didn't know there was an austro- hungarian navy once because neither Austria nor Hungary has access to the sea or coast. Maybe they had before WWI. Sorry, I don't have a clue about the age of the statues. My uncle used to be a sailor and his house is full of statues, elephants etc. from India, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Yes, you are probably right that this is tobacco humidor. Can you tell by those numbers where is it from ? Should i take more pictures of it ?
Could it really be bought in India?

anyone has more information about this
