I found this near the site of a fort that was built in the 1700s to protect settlers from Indian attack in eastern PA. Soaked it in vinegar to get the rust off. Looking for more info. Ammo? From what? Thanks.

Looks like cannister grape shot I've found from the Civil War. Not sure exactly though if it's 1700's era. I know they had some really small cannons so could be a small cannonball. I'm no artillery expert though, just guesses.

looks about exact size of 2 canister shots I have - nice find either way

Some canister shot will have a seam as well. I will try to pull some out and weigh it. You cleaned it well.

SURE IS ONE HELLUVA MARBLE YOU GOT THERE DAMN THING IS MASSIVE .THEM OLE BOYS DIDNT HAVE MUCH OF A CHANCE GETTING HIT BY THAT THING. MAN WAR IS BRUTAL NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.

If only there was something for a size reference lol

Just judging from the pitting, is it iron? 1 1/4 " is a heckuva projectile. Very nice find. I would love to find one under my coil.

Here's a similar sized one made of lead found at a Colonial site.

Pretty sure if it is some type of projectile that there is no getting back up from being hit by that thing
