Nice shoe buckle and large tombac. If this was a contest to guess the age of your shoe buckle, my guess would be 1770.

Steve in PA is very close. I lump in at the 3rd quarter 18th century. Nice finds. We either get the time ones whole or big broken ones.

It seems that toward the end of the 18th century they changed the buckle frame at the pin terminals. Maybe they were trying to save a little material? This observation was based on shoe buckle frames recovered at the 1758-1766 Fort Ligonier (Pennsylvania) and the 1790's John Bridges Tavern which sprung up along the military road near the fort. This from the book on the archaeological excavations at Fort Ligonier.

Beautiful shoe buckle, congrats! :occasion14:

That buckle looks perfect. I'm happy for you! I've found one complete buckle and it's one of my best finds ever finding it was such a joy!

Very nice find, never found one, congrats

I tried to get out last Friday when it was warm and couldn't get past the first 3 inches of frozen ground!! (near Saratoga)

I'm jealous of your buckle, I've dug a bunch of frames and pieces but still am looking for a complete one! Great find!

WOW great buckle! Just one more thing i have not found and need to recover before my bucket list gets kicked!

We are in the same area. I know its crazy hard when its frozen. But we kept chipping away. Its going to feel so easy when its unfrozen.

Thank you to everyone with your info.
