Congratulations on the button find but I think you may actually have a CW button there.

Tice lists the backmark (pg 43) as (star) FINE:GOLD:PLATE (star) Wide Shield. It is a depressed mark with inscription on a swallowtailed ribbon as being made by Steele and Johnson ~1860
