Wanting to add a backup detector for friends and family to use with me but don't want to spend the kind of money I did on my F75 LTD. I'm strictly a relic hunter and was thinking of an older proven relic model like a fisher 1265/1266/1270 or Whites 5900/6000. I occasionally see these older detectors on Craigslist for very reasonable money. Any opinions???

Be careful with "old/er" detectors - some of them you can't get parts/seals etc. for anymore and can't get them worked on if something goes bad.

The 1270 or 6000 aren't too old - especially the 1270 - you can still buy them new but they have been discontinued from what I heard.

A really good relic machine is the ole' Sierra Madre by whites - they still sell them but I've seen them used for decent $$ on ebay/craigslist

Hope this helps somewhat

Why dont you just get a Tesoro Vaquero?

6000 DI Pro is a great relic detector and has target ID in the All metal GB mode

I'm with Terry on this one, a Vaquero would probably be a good one for your area, so would an MXT if you don't run it too hot. It is a bit heavy but it's also one of the best. If you like to play with settings and "tend" to a dectector, the MXT might please you better. If you don't like to mess with things, Terry hit it right on the nail in my view. But always try before you buy..

I bought a 1265-X many years ago but I tried to fire it up a couple years ago and it was dead. I want to get back into detecting and just ordered an AT Pro outfit from Bart at Big Boys Hobbies. I also got my meter out yesterday and found the battery leads were bad. One of the battery holders was broken so I called Fisher and they don't have any spares so I went to Radio Shack, bought an 8-AA holder and it fired back up so I'm anxious to take it out this spring.....might get my granddaughter interested! Can't find a manual, though, but did download one for a 1266-X. It looks very similar to my 1265..........

5900 dipro 15" loop that will go deep for relics
