I did some research on an area here in San Diego that I believe had an old horse drawn open air streetcar station at around the turn of the century (1900) and headed out for a hunt. The area overlooked a large valley (Mission Valley) and I was pleased to see that there was still quite a bit of grass in the area. The first few finds were modern and I was getting a little discouraged until I got a nice deep signal and found a 1920 Wheaty with a chain in the same hole. The chain is old, not sure what type of metal or if it was plated but now it's very brittle and came out in pieces. Then I got a faint deep signal that turned out to be a really nice old button in great condition and it still had the shank on it (not sure if I should clean it or not). I also got my first war nickel a 1943 S, a 1937 S Wheaty, and 1944 D & 1945 D Wheaties, a brass letter "O", a brass ring eye (may be some type of horse item), and an old strap piece (may also be a horse item), and a part to an old pocket watch. Any thoughts on what some of the relic items might be would be appreciated. Enjoy the pics.
