since the weather has been in the 50s around here the past few weeks, I took advantage and went out for a few hours this afternoon. The site is an old Church and it has been a very fruitful site. A few weeks back, I found a very nice 2 cent piece as well as an older large cent. This time around, I started with a wheatie from 1921 and a few old pocket knives. There are also a ton of thimbles here. I hit another signal that sounded like another thimble and out popped this beauty.
Beautiful stones, hand cut. I think the ring is pewter and you can see where they punched the ring to keep the stones in. Just a shame the last saphire fell out. Nevertheless, I was very excited. Any ideas on the age and what a value would be?? I'm thinking 1700's (could be way off), but have no idea on the price.
Also, the stones look better when they are wet. Any idea how to keep that detail/clarity when it dries? Should I clean the ring or leave it alone?? Thanks.

Congrats!! I agree it is old but it's unique. ;D

;) RR

Take it to a jeweller. To my uneducated eye it does not look very old. Looks like base metal and glass...but I could be very wrong and I hope I am!

If it's old enjough to be valuable maybe cleaning it isn't such a good idea. If it's cheap junk then it won't matter. I agree that a jeweller should make the call. IF any money is offered for it kindly refuse and get a second opinion. GL with that yard!!!!

Laater...

I'm fairly certain it is old. There isn't much that is modern around this place. I believe the ring is pewter and was probably gold plated in it's prime. When I get a chance, I'll take it to a jeweler. Thanks everyone.
