old river road

ok i give up.whats the punchline?

no punch line but i can see why you think that. i researched this old road and it seems like a good place to look. just wondering what should expect to find

With that kind of history on one road any kind of find would be possible.. Keep that location under your hat if at all possible.. Good luck...HH

i think i'll do just that. the place hasn't changed since then, no houses, developments or anything. only thing you will see is the occasional deer hunter riding around looking for his dogs

If the road is dirt I actually ride with the window down and hang my head out and look for points. It works you just have to go slow and be able to multitask. I have found some nice things by doing it rite in the road. Most dont think to look where cars and trucks drive.

Look for the nearest places they might have camped or rested and been able to come down to the water. Hit it with a detector. Look at it on a topo map and get a feel for the terrain. Best relics or artifacts may not be on the road but right off it. Good luck.

look for spots where they could of hid things off the path also, sounded too good to be true, rock shelters would probally pay off, look for small flakes of flint as for the indians, when you find them there should be artifacts nearby.

oh i already know there were lots of native americans around. my uncle has 2 or 3 thousand arrow heads he has picked up but that was from plowing the fields nearby. this road parallels the river where the british shipped supplys from the coast to an inland town they had captured. it was the supply route for them and later the confederate troops. those are the things i want to look for, maybe find points while i'm digging also

Finding almost anything is possible is possible...the road was traveled by many cultures and generations within those cultures. On the other hand...I spent about a week working an old stagecoach road there in the low country I located...so far...it's been cleaner than a whistle. Just for kicks I left the road and went maybe 50 yrds to the side and found an old railroad spike. I did located an old dumpsite near where it ends at the modern hwy but didn't do much with it for lack of time. I'll pick up again when I get back there in the fall.

Sounds like you need to do what I am doing in the morning. Hit with a metal detector . Dig all targets at first till you narrow the areas down that are best. Am sure you will find lots.Hit the river bank for eye ball finds.

ask your uncle if he would show us a few on here,we would like to see them

I would'nt count on flint points. By that time metal was in use, so use a metal detector, you probably will find buttons, coins and other metal objects of the day. Farm fields are still the best hunting for arrowheads.

good idea jamey. he's not on computer but when i go i'll take my camera and take some photos

that would be awesume,i hope you find all the money they might have lost

Logging roads around here grow 'alder trees' before evergreens - so the way you spot the road is the line of alders amung evergreens - hope this helps!

This helps find roads ~50 years old
