Drove by a site we've searched a hundred times and it had been plowed so went back to see if anything new showed up. Found a few interesting items.

Not sure what this is but found two pieces separately and they fit together, maybe a star badge, there is a nub on the back of one

A couple of cuff flat buttons

Found these 2 six months apart but appear to be a match.

That does look like the edge of a Spanish coin and good Id on the star badge wow theres some old stuff there and activity good signs. Great post hope theres a gold coin there somewhere. Tommy

Is the clipping as thin as it seems in the photo? A clipping from a cob would be relatively thick. Your clipping appears very thin as you would find with an old English hammered silver or Mass silver coin.

Nice variety of finds. I like the coins and the padlock.

Nice finds! Love the old padlock and cool you could get a maker's ID.

Its about 1mm thick and pretty consistent. I hadn't thought about British hammered. Not sure the date range for British. The artifacts at this site range from mid 1700's to late 1800's.

Last year I hunted a corn field in Annapolis Maryland. I saw the signs of old Driveway posts garage stones and everything you would want to see for an old farmstead. Did I have my detector? um Noooo

I'm not sure if the 1mm thickness helps. :dontknow: It looks thinner than a cob, especially a larger 2R - 4R cob. It's also been completely shaved around in one piece apparently with shears. I doubt you could clip a thick cob in such a manner. Clippings from silver coins are rarely posted on T-Net - at least as far as I know. But I don't believe you have a clipping from a hammered English coin. Compare the striations on your clipping with those on the fragmented coin below.

You should be able to have the piece tested by a local jeweler. I'm curious to know the results. If it come backs silver and the coin is thin as a razor blade, I'll bet the strange markings on the coin is Arabic.

Nice field hunt, interesting clipping, nice coins & very cool lock, congrats on all
