While hunting an 1897 home in Kansas City, I found this Pin/badge. Rang in at 74-76 vdi on my MXT. It's 1 1/16" in diameter. Concave in shape. Originally had something hooked to the back of it (assuming it was a stick pin).

"23D ANNUAL CONVENTION", "KANSAS CITY", "A.T.B.A. MAY 8th 1901

I've done numerous Google searches. It's amazing how many organizations use ATBA as their call letters. Anything from a Buddist organization to a Canadian Archery group. I have a call in to getting a copy of the local newspaper for the same date, however the process is taking it's time.

Thought someone might enjoy the search. Thanks for any and all efforts.

Regards,
Jules

No, but that's a good theory. I've been wondering if the little pattern in the center had any significance. I'll approach it from that angle.
Thanks......
Jules

<added> Since this is the 23rd year for this organization, I don't even know if the telegraph was around in 1878????

Kansas City at the turn of the twentieth century says "livestock" to me. At first I thought "American Thoroughbred Breeders Association". But they (apparently) weren't founded until 1928 - 29.

Does that funny little symbol in the middle represent an animal head with horns?

I just guessing...

Try a Baptist connection. I have seen some tokens and pins for large conventions. It's a possibility.

Could be a good guess, :-\ Was looking at Joseph Henry's date of death.

"In 1830, an American, Joseph Henry (1797-1878), demonstrated the potential of Sturgeon's device for long distance communication by sending an electronic current over one mile of wire to activate an electromagnet which caused a bell to strike. Thus the electric telegraph was born. Samuel F.B. Morse (1791-1872), whose sketches of a "magnetized magnet" in operation are shown here, successfully exploited Henry's invention commercially."

Great ideas thus far.......

Stoney56 We have a great library here. It's on my list of places to go if it's not solved here first.

DCMatt Here's closeup of the center. It really does look like that old black and white TV antenna commercial shooting waves over the air.
Livestock would make sense here. I first thought it was railroad related, but I can't match up the letters to the various rail lines.

Thanks all,
Jules

ATBA Identified..........

Just got this email. I have a connection at the Kansas City Star. A nice pet to have. When she has more time, she's going to get me a copy of the entire listing. Seems there was an announcement for the convention in the May 7th, 1901 paper.

ATBA = American Ticket Brokers Association

Convention held for 2 days in Kansas City regarding selling tickets for the railroad.

Anti-scalping law measure will not be discussed.

Thanks to all who showed an interest.

Jules
