Hello all, my cousin works at a scrapyard and found this pin in a car they were about to crush. I'm looking for an ID on it since he was unable to find anything. We both have a hunch of what the face is but we're looking for anyone who know's more than just a silly guess. Also, what's the thing on the back with the holes used for? Thanks!

Sorry Only a Guess.
unless it is some Vintage Snorter for Sniffing some type of Drug like Opium Which I Doubt.since lighting it would be tuff

My guess some type of Scent Packet fit in it.

Very Cool though , probably not as old as it looks.
I think 60's (Grateful Dead ?)Hippy Era

It kind of looks like an early golliwog. I don't think it's a clown because you can see evidence of black enameling still on it, so yes Jim Crow era for sure, if you want to look at it that way. It's definitely a scent brooch, a type of vinaigrette jewelry. It would have held a tiny sponge that you could fill with scent. Here is the actual history of them.
Vinaigrette - AJU

I'd date yours to the early 1900's based on the looks of it. So what were you guys thinking?

Holy S! Thank you everyone and especially you Diggummup! That's exactly what we thought it was portraying but had no idea of the history behind it! I'm out to dinner now but my cousin has this link and I'll let him know the mystery has been solved! Thanks again everyone!
