Old Piece with Star found in Texas

Was hunting some old ground in Texas yesterday. Dug this piece with star on it.
Appears to be Copper with a clasp on back and signs of 2 other connectors of some type.
At the tip appears to be an old break.
I have no idea what this is or was part of.
My first guess is some sort of Horse tack adornment. Martingale , rossette.
Could it be Texas revolution Period.
Good to speculate, best find I have made in awhile.
size is 2 1/4" w. by 1 3/4" h.

Crouch had one in his book on page 135. His is identical except that his has a lead filled back. He identified it as a bridal rosette and had possible use by the Texas Rangers. Anyway you look at it, it is a very nice, rare find.
