Howdy. I dug this from an old cornfield with 1830's and forward history. I thought it might be an old trigger guard for a rifle. Anyone know if this might be the case or just what this item is. Thanks for any assistance identifying this object. Kurios1 001.webp002.webp003.webp

Looks very similar to parts of an early 1800s brass andiron.

I have dug some musket balls in the field where this was recovered. I haven't recovered any gun parts that I could identify for sure so this might be a first for me. Thanks for your thoughts Dug. Kurios1

What is the size.? Looks too thick to be trigger guard.
Maybe a handle to something.

2 3/4 inches long. It seems the size of what a trigger guard might be. Just guessing.

Antique muzzleloading rifle trigger guards are usually brass, and come in many, many shapes. What you have sure looks like part of one to me.

It's clearly broken and not complete. I'm guessing it's just part of one similar to your picture. Thanks for posting mate.
