Garrett Ace 400
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
This whistle is not a detecting find, but was at a house that been in my family for over 200 years. Unfortunately the house had to be sold a few years ago but this whistle was one of the things that was kept.

I think that it is made of pewter, as it is a silvery metal and rang in the 70's when ran it over the coil of my Ace 400.

It still works well and also still has the wooden pea inside!

What do you all think about how old this whistle is? Any thoughts are appreciated!

What you've got is a Hawking or Falconry Whistle
Date wise, I'm not an expert, but a safe guess would be 18thc

"Falconry is generally defined as the capturing of quarry using trained birds of prey. Several, more specific terms are used by purists. For example, the term hawking is used when a hawk or an eagle is used for the hunting, or even the broader term austringer is used for one who hunts with hawks, eagles, or even owls. The term falconry, some believe, should be used strictly for hunting with falcons."
