Some idea of size might help.

My first thought was a condoms tin - similar to a '3 Merry Widows'.

The lettering seems to read EP Co.
So, maybe E..... Prophylactic Co :dontknow:

I found the exact same jar. The lid was still on the jar but was corroded through. Doe the jar have any value?

I know this is solved, but wanted to let you know that my pond's lid isn't pewter it is zinc and if you don't preserve it it will be white powder shortly. I cleaned mine boiled it in parafin wax untill the water boils out(DO YOUR RESEARCH NEVER OVER 250 degrees it my go splash then woosh you go ahhh etc.) and then let dry now I know my lid will at least last as long as me. Zinc once exumed will begin to corrode very quickly it like lotsa oxygen to make its powdery change. Thats why alot of the modern cents found today are in worse shape than the ones found that are 100yrs old.
