Old penny pitching back in the day?

The city removed a (parkway) tree about a block down so I headed over with my MD and found 12 wheaties, pretty much parallel to the curb. 1938 - 195x so I am guessing some penny pitching was going on back in the early/mid 50's? Nice to find that many in so small an area, so close to home

Now I have to work on trying to see if I can hit some neighbor's property. Almost to MD after work now that it is getting dark so early. Need some nearby places to hit with the 30 - 45 minutes of daylight I have after work :-[

Other than that pretty much slow. I did find a 1964 dime along with a 1961 cent in the same hole in a school yard. Only the second silver coin (found a quarter last year) found at the school. I did find 237 quarters at the place so it sure has been okay on that end!

Way to go!
I remember those days. You don't see that any more though.

237 qtrs gets lots of vendoteria action and a tollbooth or two to boot!

Could that parkway have been on a parade route during that period? I know in some areas I've hit parkways LOADED with period coins from the era when those streets were used as parade routes.

I don't think so as I MD'ed an entire parkway (corner house) two years back as the guy was putting a new lawn in so has the top layer of grass removed. The parkway is only 1/2 block west of the parkway I found the wheat ears so if a parade did come by it most like went by that house also. Not a single wheat ear! Actually very little coins - a small pocket spill of clad and some clad here and there but not much over all.
