Hunted several hours on some old farm land in Northern Oklahoma this weekend. Finds that weren't huge chunks of scrap metal 2 feet down were few and far between. I did have a couple keepers. I found what appears to be a pretty old Pabst beer company lighter, a Palmolive-Peet Co token and a cool mystery screw top cap to something.

Any ideas on the age of the lighter? My google searches haven't come up with anything similar. It says "PAT APPL'D FOR" at the very top. I was hoping for a patent date but no such luck!

Thanks for looking!

Well it's kinda a lighter. It's actually a match safe (missing the top). There should be some ridges on the bottom for striking the matches. I found one of these, Pabst branded but a different design a long time ago. If I remember correctly it dates to about 1900-1910.

I thought it was too thin to be a lighter! Yes it does have ridges on the bottom. Thanks for the ID!

Oh man I would flip if I dug that! Love me some Pabst cool find!

I haven't heard the pabst name in quite a while, same with the term "cake" of soap! Congrats !

Palmolive must have been well known I'm from Southern IL me and a buddy found some different design

Hello asmerri. Nice digs ya got there. Tokens are always great to find and the match safe is a sweet recovery. Don't know the vintage on the Pabst item but I think the soap token is from the 1920's. HH C9

In 1926 soap manufacturers Palmolive and Peet merged to become Palmolive-Peet Company. In 1928, Colgate merged with Palmolive-Peet to become Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Company.

So your token can be pretty narrowly dated to between 1926 and 1928 since it says Palmolive-Peet.

Nice research Nick. Thanks for the date!
