So I picked this unique owl up at a thrift store today. I was excited about it because my fiancé and I have a nice collection of Native American pots bc he is Native American (about 25%).

Anyway, when I got it home and took a closer look (and smell) it really had me wondering how old and/or where this piece might be from.

It is about 8 inches tall. The inside smells like dirt and it appears to have small pieces of stone throughout (not big stone, but very small pieces here and there). I could not find a makers mark or signature of any kind.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

These are Mexican pieces. It's very cute!

Looks an awful lot like the hand-carved "Gourd Owls" made by the Peruvian
people. There are other modern artists making them too, now, but I would
certainly check into any Peruvian history on it.

I will take a look. Thank you for the details.

Here is a few pictures of another pot I got a few weeks ago. This one is from Italy (clearly marked). This piece is about 6 inches tall. Any details?

Ok, just checked out the Gourd Owls, and the piece I picked up today is clay of some sort. Guess I should have mentioned that. It smells like a dirty basement (not a bad smell, just smells like an unfinished basement).
