Old Nintendo Furniture?

Hello,

I found an old piece of nintendo Furniture. I believe it's a nintendo storage stand? If anyone has any information in regards to this I would appreciate any feedback. What was the original purpose for the things on the side? Also does it have any value?

I'm having trouble determining the size of the unit... Maybe those wire things on the side are designed to hold the game cartridges?
