The story has a familiar start,
"ZDD and Me" Two old metal hounds a hunting they did go.
Like ZDD said in his post
http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/today-s-finds/377440-today-s-relics.html

We tried some new places, the first was picture book perfect, flat ground, good soil, close to water, but nada to be had there, you just never know. Another spot you could say wasn't quite ready, but after getting there decided to swing between the standing corn for a few minutes anyway, yeah old metal hounds for sure.

Anyway we each got a few things so all was good.

I got a light guage shoe buckle frame, where is that complete one ?
Ram rod thimble, piece of a cast iron cap gun, KG II copper and a 1956 Silver.
The round blob, is solid, not hollow ?
Also lugged home two more axe heads :icon_scratch:
The trade axe of the 7th is almost done.

Nice little group of finds... Are there any roman numerals engraved on the ramrod thimble?

I'd say no roman numerals like there often are, but has three marks on the tang, like this \ | /

Duh it's a Roman numeral 3 lol

Sometimes I'm Duh, but these a long way from parallel to each other. The angle quite large, so I thought purposely made to be something other than III:dontknow:

Ok ok I get it , a lot of those pieces have numerals on them, but that mark doesn't appear to me to be one of them. But it is something. Someone suggested they were inventory marks or the like as well once

Nice find on that ramrod channel...my favorite type of relic!

Nice digs Rick! I like the Brown Bess ramrod guide.

Digging crazy...that's HH...right ?
And ROMEO-1, STEVE in PA.

Thanks, I just wish I'd get another part, I have a few of these, only one triger guard. And lately I'll be honest I've been digging long targets in hopes of maybe a barrell to a gun...no luck yet, but who knows...EH ?

It's crazy Rick, I would like to think I've dug just about every detectable metal part of a rifle/ musket...butt plates, side plates, trigger guards, ramrod thimbles(several ones) ,hammers, locks, screws ,bands, but never a barrel,...the largest piece, you might think that might be the one piece of the puzzle that might be out there and able to be found, not so. Although, I've seen many posted that were detected , they just don't show up that often, it would seem that the little pieces and acoutrements are what we find so often
Now I guess that's a challenge for us to go out and find one

Very interesting....puts my motivation into an even higher gear.
To know that others including yourself haven't got a barrell yet....(missing words) seems funny, being a large, and iron object, doesn't seem like a hard thing to find... Strange this hobby.
