Hi,
Heres something for the button buffs!
First the story. In the country farmers tend to dump their rubbish IE: broken farming implements, barbed wire, old cars and household garbage, into dried up dams. They do this until the hole gets too full and then find another one.
When i was younger i lived on an old farm, and as you know kids love to explore and my brothers and i were no exception. Many a day was spent fossicking in one such dump. Apart from all the cast iron, wire, rusted metal and broken bottles we did find alot of "treasure" mainly coins, buttons, bottles and medallions.
The buttons that i have been able to find are as follow:
1. General Service button for the British Empire & Commonwealth, Brass 1900 (reverse.. Sydney Griffith Birmingham)
2. RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) Black bakelite Service Tunic buttons. 1940
3. As Above only smaller.
4. RYCV (Royal Yacht Club Victoria??) Brass Unknown date.
5. Navel and Military Club Victoria, Brass (reverse Stokes and Sons) Unknown Date
Hope they are of intrest to someone.
Oh by the way they were all found underground and would have been their for at least 50 years.
Cheers
Grim
