Old metal tool/pin?

Found the octagon pin/tool in a rock wall today. Can't seem to id what it is though. This rock wall surrounded a old foundation in the middle of the woods. This was under a few rocks on top of the rock wall. Any ideas what it might be? It's about 12 inches long and has 8 sides.

I have a brass drift that looks just like that. I also have a metal stone corner chisel I found in a rock quarry that dated back to the 1200's in the village I live in; it looks alot like that too.
