I have never figured out why things are found where they are found. Perhaps someone from out there somewhere had the lock. got a flat tire down here in the boonies, unlocked the lock and put it on the bumper, promptly forgetting it as they drive off. Was there really a Ft. Slocum?

My wisdom on that: They are there because they are there. That covers it.

Historical note: Gen D. D. Eisenhower (probably 1st Lt.) drove across the nation for one of his transfers. Memory fails, but it was possibly to Arizona and I am sure before WWI.

It did exist until 1965.

locks, like anything else, move around with people. Could've been on a soldiers footlocker or who knows what.... it's cool the key is in it!
