Old lock question

Your round brass padlock appears to be what lock collectors call a "pancake" version of padlock. That type dates from the 1870s, and was in its heyday in the very-early 1900s. The fact that yours seems to have no markings at all on either side (not even a Patent-date marking), indicates it was made after the original patent had expired... so I would guess yours is from the late-1800s or early-1900s.

An antique-padlocks collector website has a massive database of "pancake" padlocks (also called a "6-lever brass round padlock"). If you're interested enough, you can sift through all the photos and info, here:

Clean the hasp part of the lock very carefully. Most likely you will find tiny patent dates there. If not there look very carefully on the edge of the lock. If its hard to tell from damaged or worn lettering.....see if you can make out the name "Miller".

Cleaned the hasp and is says PAT APP'D FOR. Thanks again for advice.
