This was another of the items that camper had in her pouch along with the reale that I posted in Todays Finds. It seems to be some sort of stamp made out of lead and looks like it shows a grocery store or something. There seems to be items around that have "SOAP" and "FLOUR" and others which I cannot make out. The words on the bottom I think say "SOUR MOLLO". Whatever that means?? The picture was flipped from its original to show the way it would look if you put ink on it and stamped it on paper. The item is actually a reverse image.

Anyone have any ideas what this was used for or any other info on it so we can let camper know what she has here??

Thanks for viewing.

Looks like an advertising printing plate, or "cut." I believe the lettering at the bottom reads, "... IS OUR MOTTO." Since it appears to be a single-column ad, the other word was probably at the top.

good call PBK! I though there was something next to the "S" but the way it is laid out it looked like one word.

Thanks

yep, thats a old newspaper lead printing plate. In the old days, workers had to lay out by hand the lead plates for the page to be printed. They had to put them in trays "Backwards",so the print would come out readable.Later the "Linotype" machine came out and workers would type out articles on lead plates using a typewriter. Then the "Layout" person would put them in order on the press plate to be copied. After using the plates, most paper companies had the plates "melted down" and reused the next day."OSHA" would have had a hay day back in those days :icon_scratch: Idig
