✅ SOLVED old ladies watch ( looking for time frame )

back at my friends 1830 homestead . found this in the garden , hard to read through the pane it is brownish ,but the first letter is an X watch seems to be made of brass , not rusted anywhere just dirt caked on still , one band is missing , the other seems to be made out of some kind of rope or nylon type with brass clasps on it . I told him not to clean it . looking for a time era to determine if it was his mothers , grand mothers or great grandmothers , house has been in his family's possession since it was built . looks 1930-40 but I am no expert on watches !Thanks in advance !

I'm thinking 1940s, but they make those small ladies wristwatches like that up in to the 1960s. The movement may have a serial number on it that would tell exactly when it was made. Do you know the brand name of watch it is?

i dont know what the movement is that you are referring to , but I want to say it says xtress or something like that ? should I try to take the back off , seems well intact and its not rusted or anything

Inside the back cover you'll see the movement or what make the watch tic. Most have identification info such as who it was made by, how many jewel's which are ruby bearings in the workings and serial numbers that can tell the age of the watch. There are lots of records online for the more common watch makers like Hamilton, Elgin & Waltham that all you do is enter the s/n and it will tell the age and type of movement it is. If it's a less popular brand you may not have access to these kind of records online. I still thinks it's from the 40's to the 50's, because the 1930's ladies watches where a bit bigger and more Art Deco in style.
