Put some oil on the blade both sides and let it sit a couple days. Take a pliers and pull on the blade. Once open you should see the maker of the knife near the hindge on the blade.
Its a typical style 1830ish 'swell-end Jack' knife.
In 1850 they started adding other things besides just a blade.
is it possible the other 'knife' is a 3 tined fork rusted together?
Thanks Muddy. I have found 4 pocket knives this year in rough shape. None with bone like this one. I will be working on cleaning some pieces this winter. You know me, I'll clean it with care .
Here it is cleaned a bit. There is a makers mark but I cannot read it. Hopefully someone has viewed it before and can notice the mark. I used a brass brush dremmel as it does not scratch iron. I will need to take the next step if a expert can help to further clean it. I want to stay away from anything that may stain bone.
