I believe it's not a key, but part of an old gas valve for gas lights or a heater.

Victorian era fancy homes had the really ornate designs

I just found a valve yesterday but did not post it. Now I have an excuse :) Look close as mine has 2 knobs like that

strange that my valve came from a poor folk site near a river, and the closest town that had gas, is 10 miles south.

I found a lot of oil lamp pieces, and a very early electric light socket,(so I guess I found a "Trifecta" of early home lighting lol) and this brass spigot for a wooden keg. Not sure if these were used to fill oil lamps? The small barrel band was there, but might be from a nail keg? or for that valve?
