I dug this while metal detecting in Atlanta GA close to union lines battle of peachtree creek any ideas on what it is and how old you think it is I dug it in the same area of this piece of camp lead

That’s a rifle butt plate with the top piece bent straight.

I agree with hinge, as a side note, pics are always better out of the hand as camera will often focus on the hand.
