yes a very common find on the farm or forest relic hunt ,

My guess is related to horses or a wagon. Its heavy duty and its Iron, not brass or bronze, something that would be used inside the house or decorative.

it's like Tony said some uses were Leather strap guides, Some Bulls AND swine had them installed in there noses so they could be controlled better. Some times were used to link other items together
